Actors Quotes – Djimon Hounsou

“Until you are somewhat comfortable and confident and embrace who you are, as a person, you can’t possibly love somebody else because you don’t like yourself that much.” – Djimon Hounsou

Many people struggle with loving themselves for who they are. We tend to be jealous of others for who they are and what they have. We want to be someone else or have something we cannot have. We want to be as handsome as Channing Tatum, we want to be as good a singer as Beyoncé or we just want to be as successful as our neighbour. Little do we realise that others are also jealous of who we are or what we have achieved.

Television, Internet and social media have lowered people’s self image these last couple of years. On TV, celebrities are being portrayed like gods while they are just normal people. On Instagram, Facebook and the likes, us mortals go out of our way to be gods to our acquaintances. We post a selfie on a white beach with our fancy Ray-Ban sunglasses and hope that as many people will acknowledge (read: like) how awesome we are. We constantly try to portray ourselves as being happy, successful, wealthy, beautiful, etc. Often, it is all facade. Until you embrace who you are, you will only focus on yourself and therefore you cannot love somebody else.
